The Student Unification Party on the University of Liberia campus issued a 48 – hour ultimatum to the administration of the University to resolve an ongoing issue of the absence of the “add and drop” button on the school’s e-portal platform. They equally demanded that issues of inadequate chairs and buses be addressed.
The Student Unification Party consequently staged simultaneous protests, which disrupted normal academic activities, and led students and lecturers to vacate the classrooms.
Academic Freedom is enhanced when students have an enabling environment to study and engage in other academic activities. The absence of necessary tools to aid the learning process like the add ad drop button in the present situation will definitely prevent students from registering their courses, and essentially hinder the learning process. The universities should engage students in situations like these to prevent unmerited riots. Institutions should equally ensure that physical structures like chairs, among others are available for learning.
