The Lofa County University suspended three senior administrators within the University, upon an internal audit by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, which revealed alleged financial mismanagement within the University. This was in relation to ghost employees and misuse of institutional funds amounting to US$75,000 in public funds. Amidst investigations by the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission, the president of the University indicated that the suspension was going to remain in place, until the individuals involved had cleared their names.
Allegations of corrupt practices and financial mismanagement within the University definitely calls for further investigations to bring such persons involved to book with the appropriate sanctions meted out. In as much as the acts of misconduct are yet to be established, an indefinite suspension of university staff pending investigations promotes institutional autonomy to address internal issues in a manner that maintains sanctity and integrity within the University.
