Date of Incident: March 14, 2025

Attack Types:

Region & Country: Liberia

New or Ongoing: Ongoing Incident

The Liberia National Students Union has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to the Liberian government, seeking among others that the government makes provision for Liberian students who were studying in Morocco. The government appears to have made promises to these students regarding some assistance with their studies abroad, but had not fulfilled those promises, hence the action by the Liberia National Students Union.

Academic freedom is curtailed when students lack the adequate facilities and environment to enhance their studies. In the present situation, the failure of the Liberian government to fulfill its promises to students in a foreign country is rather unfortunate, as this will not only lead to  students failing to meet their academic demands, but will subsequently prevent other students from making such academic pursuits in the future.
