In February 2025, the Parliament of Morocco raised serious concerns about housing shortages in Morocco’s public universities. Overcrowding, gender-based restrictions, and burdensome application procedures continue to undermine students’ access to safe and adequate accommodation, thereby limiting their right to education.
Comments/Recommendations
ACAF is deeply concerned that the acute shortage of student housing and restrictive practices could negatively impact academic performance and increase the risk of communicable disease outbreaks. ACAF therefore calls for urgent expansion of student housing infrastructure and the simplification of allocation procedures. Special consideration must be given to vulnerable and marginalized students to ensure equitable access to safe, inclusive learning environments.
