Side Event at 59th Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council: Regional Approaches to Implementing the Right to Academic Freedom

We are pleased to share that ACAF will join the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education and Scholars at Risk for a wonderful side event at the #HRC59. The discussion will highlight both regional and global strategies to safeguard academic freedom in the face of growing global challenges, with perspectives from leading initiatives and coalitions.

The right to academic freedom is essential for fostering environments of critical thinking, research, and expression. However, statistics from the 2024 Academic Freedom Index Report and Scholars at Risk’s Free to Think Report show that it’s increasingly under threat and we need strong, coordinated strategies to turn the tide.
