Job Title: Grant Writer

Reports to: Regional Director

Location: Airport Residential Area, Accra

Organization: Africa Coalition for Academic Freedom (ACAF)

Duration:  6 months

Summary

ACAF seeks to engage an experienced Grant writer on a six-month contract to support its resource mobilisation efforts. The Grant writer will be responsible for identifying suitable funding opportunities, developing high-quality grant proposals, and supporting donor engagement to secure financial resources for ACAF’s programmes. Working in close collaboration with the programme and finance teams, the Grant writer will ensure that all funding proposals are strategically aligned with ACAF’s priorities and fully compliant with donor requirements.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Identify and track relevant grant and funding opportunities from bilateral, multilateral, foundation, private and other donors.
  • Lead the development, writing, and submission of grant proposals, concept notes, and expressions of interest.
  • Coordinate internal inputs for proposals, including programme narratives, budgets, log frames, and monitoring frameworks.
  • Ensure all proposals comply with donor guidelines, eligibility criteria, and submission deadlines.
  • Edit and strengthen existing proposals and organisational documents for clarity, coherence, and donor alignment.
  • Track proposal submissions and outcomes.
  • Liaise with programme and finance teams to ensure technical and financial accuracy of proposals.
  • Contribute to strengthening the organisation’s internal grant development systems and templates.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree in Development Studies, International Relations, Social Sciences, Marketing, Business Administration or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of demonstrated experience in grant writing and resource mobilisation, preferably within non-profit or donor-funded environments.
  • Proven track record of successful grant submissions to institutional and foundation donors.
  • Strong understanding of donor requirements, proposal formats, and budgeting processes.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills in English.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Languages

  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Working knowledge of French and or other official African Union languages will be an added advantage.
