Job Title: Communications Officer
Reports to: Regional Director
Location: Airport Residential, Accra
Organization: Africa Coalition for Academic Freedom (ACAF)
Duration: 6 months
Summary
The Communications Officer is responsible for developing and implementing strategic communications plans to promote the organisation’s mission, enhance visibility, and influence public policy or stakeholder engagement. This role involves managing media relations, creating content, executing digital campaigns, fostering partnerships, and advocating for policy initiatives in alignment with organisational goals.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for ACAF;
- Manage and update ACAF’s website and social media channels to ensure timely and relevant content;
- Design and promote public information campaigns to local and international audiences;
- Manage the production, dissemination, and visibility of ACAF’s advocacy and promotional materials;
- Format, package and support the submission of programme proposals for donor review;
- Promote ACAF’s activities, projects, and impact to stakeholders and the broader public;
- Maintain and expand a network of media contacts, ACAF members, partners, civil society organisations, government officials, multilateral and bilateral donors and the private sector;
- Support monitoring by reviewing submitted raw and summarized reports from ACAF monitors for proper documentation and publication; and
- Prepare and submit periodic reports on ACAF’s activities to donors, stakeholders and partners
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor degree in Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field;
- At least 3-5 years demonstrated experience preferably within non-profit or donor-funded environments;
- Proven ability to develop compelling stories, turning complex info into engaging narratives;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to craft clear, persuasive, and audience-specific message;
- Ability to align communication and advocacy strategies with organizational goals;
- Understanding of media landscapes, social media management and content marketing.

Languages
- Fluency in English is required.
