ACAF urges the Algerian government to take immediate and concrete measures to uphold constitutional guarantees protecting the right to strike and freedom of association. Authorities must put an end to all forms of retaliation against unionized teachers and ensure a safe, enabling environment for collective bargaining and peaceful protest. Constructive engagement with education unions is essential to rebuild trust and foster inclusive dialogue on working conditions, salary reform, and institutional development. Responding transparently and meaningfully to educators’ concerns will not only enhance morale and performance but also help restore academic autonomy and reaffirm the role of educational institutions as spaces for academic freedom.
